  1. A copy of the ACLS Instructor Essentials course completion certificate

This course includes management of common arrhythmias, pharmacology, airway management, and electrical therapy for arrhythmias.

  • This course is for students who have never taken a BLS Provider course before, their certification has expired, or they prefer the in-person class.

This course is the CPR course designed for healthcare providers and professional rescuers.  The class meets the requirements for CPR certification and for renewal of CPR certification for employees working in the healthcare industry.  This is also the required CPR course for students studying to become healthcare providers.  Successful completion requires satisfactory scores on a written certification exam and satisfactory performance of all skills evaluations.

This course is intended to prepare a student as a competent, entry level, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Students will learn knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency care to victims of trauma, medical, and other types of emergencies. Also included in the class are emergency obstetrics, pediatrics, and geriatric emergencies. 

 As part of the course, all students will complete a clinical internship in a hospital emergency department and will participate as an “extra” crew member on actual ambulance calls. Upon successful completion of this course, the EMT student will take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' (NREMT) Cognitive Written Exam. Students must also pass skills competency testing. 

 EMT certification is a pre-requisite to progress to advanced levels of EMS certification such as Paramedic.

For the course starting in January 2025: Class will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6pm - 10pm. This is a hybrid class. Lectures will be provided live, online and skills sessions will be face-to-face at the College, or off-site by special arrangement.

NOTE: this class is offered as a renewal course. If you have never taken a BLS Provider course, then the proper course to register for, is the BLS Provider Initial Course. You will not have time for individualized instruction during these skills labs and will miss out on needed knowledge necessary to build a strong foundation in Basic Life Support.

The Part 1 online portion is required before you take your Part 2 skills portion.

  3. There is available parking in this lot for persons with disabilities. Otherwise, be aware that it is a tow zone.

Continuing Education

  1. For Continuing Education submission – please go to eLearning.heart.org and log-into your account. Click on the "Completed" tab and select the "CE Credits" pencil icon of the course that you would like continuing education (CE) credits for. You will then select the CE type, confirm your personal information and then click on "Save".
  2. It is the student’s responsibility to determine the current deadlines for CE submission and to submit the application for continuing education to the respective accrediting agency.

This course REQUIRES a 2020 Provider Manual and a pre-course assessment to be completed prior to class. Proof of completion of the pre-course assessment must be brought to class with you.  These are American Heart Association requirements to attend the class.

This course is a combination of video segments and hands-on skills stations that provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to act effectively and efficiently to enhance the chances of critically ill patients surviving cardiovascular emergencies.
